-What is the TAP project?
TAP, which stands for Technology Access Project, provides email and website services to rape crisis centers free of charge. RAINN will provide each center a personalized domain name (web address), web-based email services and templates to produce a basic website. RAINN also provides technical support to set up and maintain these services.

-Who is eligible for free email and web services through RAINN?
All rape crisis centers and domestic violence programs.

-Is there a fee for the services?
These services are free until the expiration of the grant that provides funding for this project.

-What will happen to these free services when the grant expires?
The grant that funds this project will cover all expenses for at least the next 1.5 years. We will do our best to renew this grant and will seek other funding sources as necessary. If funding is not available to continue this project, we will help you transition to new service providers.

You will own your domain name (website address) and email addresses and get to take them with you. You will also get to keep your website and content and we'll help you move the site to a provider of your choice (we'll also recommend free- or low-cost providers). And we'll help you move your email to another provider, or you would be able to continue with the existing email service for a small fee.

-From where does the grant money originate?
This project was supported by Grant no. 2008-TA-AX-K012, awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice.

-Is the system secure?

All data is stored on servers in biometrically secured buildings. All passwords are encrypted.

-How much technical experience do I need to have in order to use this?
Practically none: RAINN's technical staff will walk you through the brief setup process and is available to answer questions for as long as you use the service.

-What happens if I try it and don't like it?
You can stop using the service at any time. We will help you transfer the services to another provider and you can keep your personalized domain name.

-Can we move our current website and email over to this service?

At this time, we can move the services but not the content over. If you have pre-existing web pages and old emails, they'll have to be moved over manually.
